EOL for D7 and a suggestion to create a roadmap

Oh to say goodbye to an old friend, is coming sooner than I would like. But, like a Phoenix, it makes way for something better and greater for the good of everyone involved.

On February 25th, a release came out about the End of life (EOL) for Drupal 7 (D7).

Drupal 7 was first released in January 2011. In November 2021, after over a decade, Drupal 7 will reach end of life (EOL). (More information on why this date was chosen.) Official community support for version 7 will end, along with support provided by the Drupal Association on Drupal.org. This means that automated testing services for Drupal 7 will be shut down, and there will be no more updates provided by the Drupal Security Team...

So at the time of this writing that gives you about two and a half years to make the migration to D8 or even D9, before D7 is EOL.

D9 will launch in June of 2020, and they say that it will be a much smoother transition, because instead of building a radically new version of Drupal in a separate codebase, Drupal 9 is being built in Drupal 8.
